Education system in Ireland
CASIrish institutions are classified into three categories: private independent colleges, universities and institute of technologies.
Irish universities are autonomous but funded by the state government. The universities have a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses on offer. There are 7 universities in Ireland.
There are 14 Institute of Technologies, and they have diploma, certificate and degree programmes in areas like business, linguistics, science and engineering on offer.
Private independent colleges have certificate, degree and vocational programmes on offer in fields like art & design, rural development, business studies and law.
Ireland accepts students with 15 years of education for postgraduate studies. It’s a young country and has over 200,000 international students.

The IELTS is seen as a very important exam necessary to study in the UK. But did you know that there are alternate ways to study in the UK without the need to write the IELTS exam.
- Education in an English Medium School: If you studied in an English medium school, then certain universities accept a Medium of Instruction(MOI) certificate from the school as proof of your English proficiency.
- Class 12th English Scores: Many universities will consider your 12th grade English language exam scores as proof.
- Online Interview: Some universities may ask you to take part in interviews online conducted through platforms such as Skype or Microsoft Teams to check your English language capabilities.
- Other Exams: Instead of IELTS or TOEFL or
PTE, certain universities may ask you to take a qualifying exam of their own.
While applying to study in the UK without IELTS, you will usually be asked to provide the following documents:

Keep in mind that proficiency in English is a must to obtain a Tier 4 UK student visa. For Diploma programs an overall band score of 5.0 is needed while for Bachelor’s Degree an overall band score of 6.0 is required and for a Masters Programs an overall band score of 6.0 – 6.5 is needed. If your university doesn’t require an IELTS score, make sure to ask them to provide documents confirming your eligibility for the visa.

Study options
The primary academic intakes begin in September at most colleges and universities in Ireland, though a few institutions offer intakes in February.
Undergraduate degree programmes usually last for 3 to 4 years (full-time study), which might vary depending on each institution. Postgraduate qualifications awarded could be postgraduate diploma or PhD. Both taught and research postgraduate courses are on offer at Irish institutions. A typical postgraduate lasts for 1–2 years of full-time study and a PhD lasts for 3 years at Irish institutions.

Cost of studying in Ireland
